Peek In My Medicine Cabinet for Fat Loss and Spectacular Health

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I had to check my medicine cabinet after my older sister recently sent me one of those emails about baby boomers getting older, and the stuff they supposedly need to take. While I enjoyed the humor, I said to myself, I don’t think I take any of these. None. Was that true, I asked myself?

To see, I checked my medicine cabinet and the drawers in my bathroom. There was nothing. I am not bragging; that is simply the truth. I take no prescription drugs. No blood pressure or cholesterol medicine. No drugs of any other kind, over the counter, off the Net, anything.

No laxatives. No Joint Juice or other such creaky bone medicines, and I am of the age where supposedly people need these. No Viagra or other erection medicines; I have never, ever had the slightest need for these products.

I don’t even have aspirin. What do I have? Really boring stuff. You can see in the photo of my medicine cabinet. Band-aids. Contact lens solution. Skin moisturizer. Dental floss. Toothpaste. Anti-bacterial ointment for cuts. Deodorant.

Boring stuff, but no medicines, prescription drugs or any other kind of drug or medicinal potions.

I sailed healthfully through the past flu season, which was a nasty one, without the flu and without a flu shot. I cannot remember the last time I was sick. But I know it wasn’t for long.

I do remember the last time I went to the doctor’s, an emergency trip to the hospital for an appendectomy, more than 22 years ago.

What do I attribute my spectacular health? Easy: my balanced, plant-based diet of whole, fresh, natural foods and lots of great, fun outdoor exercise. My main beverage is pure, filtered water. I eat no junk food, fast food or any kind of refined food. Just whole, natural foods, nothing taken away, nothing added.

Not only is my diet and exercise program great for fat loss and fitness, but for overall spectacular health. I honestly believe that the most important thing we do every day is what we eat and drink. And great outdoor exercise is just as important.

If you want what I have, whatever age you are, and I am 60, try The Maui Diet. You’ll like it, for all sorts of spectacularly healthy reasons.

A Remarkable Bike Ride Experience

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I recently experienced something remarkable during a bike ride I took. I hadn’t ridden that far in a long time. It was 100 kilometers, or 60 miles. Even more challenging was that I was doing it on a hybrid bike, not a pure road bike, which virtually all the other 150 or so participants were riding.

Sixty miles is a good ride on a road bike, but not a big deal for a fit cyclist. That long a ride on a mountain bike or hybrid like mine, that’s a good long ride.

The route took us around an area on Maui called Kahakauloa, and there are some big hills. It was challenging.

What was interesting was that the end of the route took me over a stretch of road I travel all the time on my bike, as it leads to my place. I probably ride that stretch of road 4 or 5 times a week.

I’m riding that stretch near the end of this sixty mile ride and asked myself, how do I feel riding this stretch now, compared to how I feel riding it any other time?

I felt exactly the same. I didn’t feel any different. There was nothing like, “Well, I feel like I just rode 60 hard miles.”

I felt exactly like I feel riding it any other time. Even though I’d just ridden about 55 miles with some pretty punishing uphill stretches thrown in. On a less-than-ideal bicycle, without any training for such a ride.

What do I attribute this to? My balanced, plant-based diet of whole, fresh, natural foods, which I recommend in my book, The Maui Diet. It really works; it is an energy-packed, premium-fuel powerhouse of a diet. For me it is the optimum diet, and I have tried them all – a meat-based diet; heavy-on-the fish diet; ovo-lacto vegetarian.

It is tops for fat loss. And fitness. The Maui Diet has revolutionized my life. I urge you to try it, whether you need to lose weight or not. You’ll like it.

To Lose Fat, Think of Yourself As An Athlete

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

If you don’t think of yourself as an athlete or athletic, I urge you to get over that. Especially if you have ever used that as an excuse to not exercise or avoid moving your body. Like, declining to take part in recreational games, dancing, or any kind of exercise or movement, because you believe you are not athletic.

If you’re like that, from now on I want you to think of yourself as an athlete. Because you are.

You are an athlete and I encourage you to treat yourself like an athlete. And that means getting regular physical exercise. Dedicated athletes never miss their workouts, their practice.

Taking this approach will change your life. It is also one of the most effective fat loss techniques I know of.

I have gotten remarkable results from thinking of myself as an athlete, and treating myself that way. This works spectacularly for me. I never miss my daily exercise, never.

It helps to understand what an athlete is: somebody who has the necessary abilities to participate in physical exercise, especially in competitive situations such as games, races, and matches.

Open your mind as you read that definition again. Notice “somebody who has the necessary abilities to participate in physical exercise.” That is everyone, including people who are in wheelchairs, and the amputees and other folks who climb mountains, play tennis, snow ski, participate in track and field, play basketball, water ski and every other sport.

Can you wiggle your thumb?

A person who is paralyzed and can only wiggle their left thumb is participating in physical exercise when they wiggle their thumb. That person is an athlete. And so are you, whatever your physical shape or athletic ability.

The second half of the definition is where people get hung up, “especially in competitive situations such as games, races, and matches.”

That’s what an athlete is, people believe. Hogwash. That’s a very narrow, limiting definition. A person who runs for the pleasure of it and doesn’t participate in races is no less an athlete than those who race. Same with a bicyclist, archer, weight lifter, horseback rider, or anyone who does not compete. They are athletes. Not “sort of” athletes. They are athletes, and so are you.

No matter what you do or how you do it, if you move in any way, you are an athlete.

The final hang up to rid yourself of is saying things like, okay, but I am not very good at it. Good compared to who or what? Stop judging yourself and instead just enjoy. Do not buy into the absurd nonsense of comparing yourself to anyone else athletically.

You are an athlete. And athletes get daily exercise, in whatever way they enjoy. Do the same and you will lose fat and get fit healthfully, permanently.

Why I Hate Fat Loss on the Web

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I hate the Internet for fat loss, I really do. At the same time, I love it.

The Web is where anyone living in the 21st century goes for information, including info on fat loss.

Same for marketing. I market my Maui Diet books and programs on the Web. One marketing method is to write articles, like this one. Most of my articles are on fat loss and fitness through a balanced, plant-based diet of whole, fresh, natural foods, and daily exercise. That describes The Maui Diet in a nutshell.

I’m passionate about these things, because they have worked so spectacularly for me. I know firsthand how well they work and how ferociously fantastic I have felt since I started practicing them. And that’s no exaggeration -– every day I feel ferociously fantastic. I keep lean and strong and never get sick, ever.

I want to spread the word, help people lose fat (not weight, notice, fat), save peoples’ lives and sell my books at the same time. I really believe in The Maui Diet. I live by what I teach and preach.

So how do my articles appear on the Web? They appear surrounded by ads like Weight Loss Fast! Fat Blaster Pills! And other similar garbage.

It makes me sick because that is not what The Maui Diet is about at all. It is the opposite. It does not sell processed, packaged foods delivered to your door. Or any kind of quick weight loss remedies, nor pills, or those godawful meal replacement shakes, herbal remedies or other garbage.

But no matter, my articles are surrounded with all the quick weight loss ads and all the phony scams they push on the public, which is always looking for a quick weight loss fix. I hate that.

And why I love the Web for fat loss? Outside of my articles, I can tell my truth, just tell people straight up that all the phony weight loss scams advertised on the Web (and TV and other media) are just that, phony. The Atkins Diet stinks. The South Beach Diet sucks. Both of these advocate eating foods with saturated animal fats and are horrible for your health.

And almost all the rest of the diets and diet scams out there -– they are a bunch of hooey. There isn’t room enough here to list them all. There are a couple of good ones that know what they’re talking about. Including The Maui Diet, which I highly recommend, unashamedly.

Thanks for reading. And if you’re interested in losing fat, follow the advice in my book, The Maui Diet. You will get great results, healthfully and permanently, I promise you.

How to Lose Fat 20 Ferociously Effective Ways

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

So many people fail at healthy fat loss, or never really get started on a program to do so because they don’t know how. And most don’t know that healthy fat loss takes more than just eating right, and drinking right. And more than just getting daily exercise.

What we eat and drink are massively important, as is regular exercise, but these are not the only things that make up a healthy approach to fat loss.

Timing is important. I’ve found the most important timing aspect of fat loss is to start now. Most people mistakenly want to put it off—until after the weekend, or the holiday or some other lame wrong-day-of-the-week or wrong-month-of-the-year excuse. Trust me, fat loss does not get easier because you put it off, for whatever reason. There will always be temptations, whether it’s a fattening dessert after dinner, not feeling like exercising or a massive Thanksgiving feast.

Few people realize how important attitude is. Which person do you think is going to have an easier time losing weight: the one who sees the whole thing as difficult, even agonizing, or one who chooses to believe it can be relatively easy if they follow certain guidelines and rules daily?

20 More Ways to Lose Fat Now

Here are more highly effective ways to lose fat, twenty of them. Some are about eating, drinking and exercising, but most are not, and they are no less effective. Implemented singly or all together, these tactics are ferociously effective at helping you lose fat.

Start your fat loss and fitness program now, this moment, today and never stop. You can start this moment by making water your main beverage. The sooner you start, the sooner you lose.

Have your own custom, outstanding, ongoing, flexible plan, blueprint. A daily journal is part of this, to keep track, note all strategies that work for you; and which don’t work. It’s vitally important to acknowledge when you’re making bad choices, like regularly depending on fattening comfort foods, or alcohol, or excessive couch-potatoing to relieve stress, tension, anxiety or blahs.

Create your own “click.” Don’t wait for it to happen: create your own “click”—that deciding moment when “something clicks” and you say to yourself, “I’ve had it with being fat. I’m done. I’m putting being fat behind me forever.”

Premium fuels only. Eat a plant-based, balanced diet of fresh, whole, natural foods with fresh fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats. If man made it, don’t eat it.

Prepare and carry with you your meals, healthy snacks and water.

Do moderately high intensity aerobic exercise daily from 20 to 90 minutes a day; or six days a week; the minimum is five days a week.

Do strength/resistance work three times a week.

Practice relaxation in everything—exercising, eating, work, play.

You are an athlete. See yourself as an athlete, treat yourself as an athlete and never miss your workouts.

Slow down while eating and everything else, everywhere else.

Get creative, stop complaining. Recognize that everything to ensure your success is all around you, and at your fingertips.

Recognize and know that junk foods are addictive; cut them out completely over time or severely limit intake.

Never “diet,” skip meals, starve or deprive yourself.

Role model successful weight losers, copy what has worked for them. The one thing they all have in common is that they make the whole thing a top priority. And almost all of them tried multiple times before permanent success. Never stop, never give up.

Learn to master states—how you feel—healthfully, without food or beverage fixes, cigarettes, caffeine, alcohol, etc.

Learn the power of physiology. Deep breathing; changing posture; smiling, laughing; deep relaxation; pumping yourself physically by movements; stretching; big sighs; shaking, walking briskly, etc.

Develop and maintain an attitude of gratitude.

Become your own expert on you, on your nutrition and exercise needs.

Practice meditation, deep relaxation, quiet time daily.

Try new tactics, strategies. See if making the noonday meal your main meal agrees with you, instead of breakfast or dinner. See if two meals a day suit you.

There you have them, 20 tactics to help you lose fat, healthfully and permanently. The sooner you start practicing them, the sooner you lose fat.
