A Remarkable Bike Ride Experience

I recently experienced something remarkable during a  bike ride I took. I hadn’t ridden that far in a long time. It was 100 kilometers, or 60 miles. Even more challenging was that I was doing it on a hybrid bike, not a pure road bike, which virtually all the other 150 or so participants were riding.

Now 60 miles is a good ride on a road bike, but not a big deal for a fit cyclist. That long a ride on a mountain bike or hybrid like mine, that’s a good long ride.

The route took us around an area on Maui called Kahakauloa, and there are some big hills. It was challenging.

What was interesting was that the end of the route took me over a stretch of road I travel all the time on my bike, as it leads to my place. I probably ride that stretch of road 4 or 5 times a week.

So I’m riding that stretch near the end of this sixty mile ride and I asked myself, how do I feel riding this stretch now, compared to how I feel riding it any other time?

And the honest truth was, I felt exactly the same.
I didn’t feel any different as I focused on the feelings in various parts of my body, particularly my legs.

There was nothing like, “Well, I feel like I just rode 60 hard miles!”

It wasn’t like that. I felt exactly like I feel riding it any other time. Even though I’d just ridden about 55 miles with some pretty punishing uphill stretches thrown in. On a less-than-ideal bicycle, without any training for such a ride.

What do I attribute this to? My balanced, plant-based diet of whole, fresh, natural foods, which I recommend in my book, The Maui Diet. It really works; it is an energy-packed, premium-fuel powerhouse of a diet. For me it is the optimum diet, and I have tried them all – a meat-based diet; heavy-on-the fish diet; ovo-lacto vegetarian.

It is tops for fat loss. And fitness. The Maui Diet has revolutionized my life. I urge you to try it, whether you need to lose weight or not. You’ll like it.
